Documentary by Yorgos Avgeropoulos
[Greece - 2006 - 65 min - Original version subtitled in French]

Much of the world's oil is located in the Niger Delta. Kidnappings, assassinations and bombings are commonplace.
This documentary portrays the image of "development" as the major multinational petroleum companies would define it. Oil flows into the river, destroying wildlife and natural flora and poisoning the food chain upon which 27 million natives.
Some area residents dare to protest against this situation and call for fair compensation. In response, they are violently attacked by special units of the army and police are armed by the oil companies. For the first time, members of MEND, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, were filmed in action. Despite its natural beauty, the Niger Delta is a paradise lost.
Or rather a nightmare born of globalization of the planet.
