Marie-Jo Lafontaine, visual and multimedia artist born in 1950 in Antwerp (Belgium), began studying law and then moves to a formal education in the arts. She graduated from La Cambre & the National School of Architecture and Visual Arts in Brussels. It follows particularly during the Polish artist Tapta, which marks her current work. In 1977, she won the prestigious prize of "The Young Belgian Painting" which is awarded for its textile works. In 1987 that her career is a milestone with the controversial installation "Tears of Steel", presented at Documenta in Kassel. This work consisted of a number of video monitors that broadcast images of suffering among weightlifters and enjoyment of opera music.

In France, she received a large video retrospective at the Galerie du Jeu de Paume in 1999. In 2006, she was chosen for entry into the World Cup in Frankfurt and carries a projection on the Sky Arena in Frankfurt, before millions of viewers.
