Summary :
Eddie is a young vampire who dwells in a small countryside cemetery. Since his death (about 40 years ago), he has very carefully kept a personal diary. This pastime has saved him from the depression which characterises his existence. Being the only vampire in this god-forsaken land, his only contact with humans is with the local priest. He is not really a high-class vampire. He is not evil and hates the idea of sucking out the blood of humans. We therefore see him wandering at night across the countryside, in search for animals to feed on. Eddie loves the countryside. The pastoral charm of nature at night plunges him into an inspiring melancholy. Eddie is sensitive to the little details of his life, and he describes them in his diary. Eddie died in the Fifties. His behaviour and his way of life correspond to that period. In the early summer, Eddie meets Marie, who has lost her way. This encounter overwhelms the young vampire.
