Summary :
What has become of Narcissus ? Is he the one that gropes his way to the limits of the frame, reincarnated as the nymph Echo (the feminine having pushed Narcissus into a double sexuality) ? These images could be a reversal of the myth ; the character, looking up instead of looking down into his own reflection, is in the process of falling and is no more the spectator of his double : he takes part in the confusion of the image. The non-visibility, the difficulty arising from the distance between the subject and the surface of the water, are magnified in the rendering that is offered to the viewer. The surface is the limit between water and air, where the image circulates, and it becomes, in water, the deceptive screen that tries to bathe perception in an illusory wink.
