Summary :
The turning of a make-up session, which is supposed to bring out the features, into the smearing of "beauty products" which distort the face. Bruce NAUMAN's ART MAKEUP, FILMS (1967-68), where the artist smears himself with colours, might be one of the antecedents, minus the jubilation, which one finds for example in a 1991 video by Joel BARTOLOMEO entitled "At the age of four, I drew like Picasso". In the latter, a painting session becomes the occasion for children to cover their face with colours, with a visible pleasure, leaving out neither the interior of the nose nor the ears. Isabelle FROMENT does not hide her satisfaction either, she hums and looks at us, while giving the impression of controlling her image in a mirror. The more she transforms her face, the more her looks are spoiled by the extreme colours and muck. The wig completes the transformation.
