Summary :
The saltworks of Arc and Senans, masterpiece of the 18th century european architecture, is born from the encounter of the mercantile interest , the industrial innovation and the “architectural fury”, according to the word of its visionary architect, Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. He was also saying : “There exists no man on earth who would not tend to be helped by an architect” and he had conceived this saltworks as the nucleus of an ideal city which was never born.
Richard Copans and Stan Neumann explore this monument, precursory of the modern architecture as it is associating the industrial practicality, a new aesthetics, monumental, “popular”, and, for the first time, the ambition to exalt the political power of the architecture.
