Summary :
This creation was inspired by an ancient tale about the building of the fortification on the banks of the lake of Scutari, which was made possible by the sacrifice of a woman who was buried alive in the foundations of its walls. The stonemasons of the medieval city of Scutari were forced by the fairy of the mountain to bury a princess, mother of a newborn child, alive. The woman accepted her fate, but asked for openings for her eyes and breasts, so she could still feed her baby and look at it before dying. The installation consists of two monitors hanging from the ceiling, the first being three feet high and the second five feet high. The highest monitor broadcasts a series of women’s eyes, and the lowest one, a series of breasts. The editing follows the rhythm of the song, which is made of the verses of the ancient folk poem, « The building of Scutari ». It is sung in the traditional fashion. Two VHS tapes of 60 minutes on an auto-reverse VCR.
