Summary :
The dying of the wool needed for tapestry is one of the major steps of this art craft. In Sidrat’s studio in Aubusson, where the ancient dying technique is still used we can observe the complex alchemy of the preparation of the colours and the dying of the wools. The vats are bubbling, the colours are very precise in order to stick to the demand of the tapestry-painter who wish to find the exact colours as on his painted sketch. All the procedure is exposed before are very eyes. The manual and very accurate skill of these technicians is astonishing. Moreover the natural colourings of the wools help the tapestries to survive longer and stronger against the attacks of time.
