Summary :
The film “Lieux” unfolds a series of shots long enough for the viewer to discover and assemble the visual and sound details that present themselves there, to let them permeate and act on him, so that each of these places can in duration take shape, take place. However, they remain images, and whether it is still or in motion, an image shows a particular place and time that can be qualified, either by notation at the time of the shooting, or because the camera records, in addition to the image, the hour to the nearest second, and the location to the nearest degree (GPS) of the shoot. But also because this image shows us a recognizable place that the viewer will never confuse with another. Each place, even if it is common, remains unique. The film showing places in the plural chooses to classify them according to terms that can apply, depending on the moment or the place occupied by the speaker, to each and every one: “there”, “here”, “over there” and “elsewhere” are called the chapters of the film. These terms can apply to all locations and specify one only temporarily. A tension is established between these “real” places and the attempt of naming, classification, appropriation operated by the editing which can be resolved only for a moment since each movement, each minute can modify its illusory sequence. Each scene reveals something unique which does not coincide with the designation of the places. Each name (locality?) can be applied to all places. To say the place is to put it out of place.
