PINK FLOYD, THE STORY OF WISH YOU WERE HERE

2013-02-04

+ 4 "surprise" movies about Syd Barret

8:00 p.m., Auditorium Palais des beaux arts, Lille

The story of Wish You Were Here by John Edginton
(USA, 2012, 85 min, original version with French subtitles)

The album Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd was released in September 1975, following the worldwide success of The Dark Side Of The Moon. It is considered by many fans, as well as by the band members David Gilmour and Richard Wright, as their favorite Pink Floyd album. This film tells the story of the recording of this essential album with new interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, but also with the archives of the late Richard Wright.
The documentary goes far beyond the simple linear reading of a striking album of the English rock scene. It offers the viewer to discover the inspirations, and the work of a band, who decidedly did nothing like everyone. While others were coming into the studio with already prepared pieces, the Pink Floyd band was entering the studio with two or three chords with only one obsession: "How to do better than The Dark side of the moon." A question which shows, if needed, all the
specificity of this association of talents that was this band, held mainly by David Gilmour and Roger Waters, after the departure of Syd Barrett.
