LOUVRE-LENS: The Gallery of Time
The Gallery of Time, where over two hundred masterpieces from all departments of the Louvre are displayed, is the heart of the new Louvre-Lens museum. The gallery, which will feature many masterpieces from all Louvre departments, is the only place in the world where one can see, under the same roof, a stream of works constituting both a marvellous book of knowledge and discovery, as well as a succession of wonderments.
Presented transversely and chronologically, the works recount the history of humanity from the 4th millennium B.C. to the European 19th century via Egypt, Greece, Rome and the Islamic world. Archaeological works feature alongside sculptures, paintings and objects of art, like many mirrors Man has held up to his gods and his own face. This film is an invitation to discover an "alternative Louvre", via the Gallery of Time's tale of Man's artistic adventures.
