born in 1969

director, videographer, media artist, visual artist

Stéphane Trois Carrés is an artist, videomaker and director. He founded the Frères Ripoulin with Pierre Huyghes and Claude Closky during his studies at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Artd Décoratifs in 1980. His painting work focused on ideas of chaos and conscience for 15 years. He made a few "Oeil du Cyclône" programs for the Canal + French channel and struggles for the defense of royalty as the chairman of the Société de gestion collective des droits d'auteur dans le domaine du multimédia's (SCAM) Commission Nouvelle Technologie. Space is an instrument used to reason with things, not to represent things. Stéphane Trois Carré's work is an encyclopedic research on space, time and video's ontology. Video, photography, painting are all investigation means to analyze such field. Concerned with the dialectic of order and chaos, this multiform work sticks to the spirit of laboratory. Each piece generates an experimental study. The formalized piece is the answer. Step by step, just like the philosopher's approach, the work constitutes scattered answers, taking their coherence from the combination of the propositions. Stéphane Trois Carrés shows a strange great applied phenomenology which core is the painter's work. The exploration of space-time goes on with a set of video and computer-generated image experimentations. Such experimental works draw an ontological bridge between analogical and digital processes of creation. This artistic approach stimulates the works of theorical mathematicians; the art work comes from a question and materializes a specific method for the planned work.
