Marina Gržinic and Aina Šmid are video artists since 1982. Before they had a punk band and were involved in performance art. They have collaborated in more than 40 video art projects, they made a short 16 mm film and numerous video and media installations; independently they directed several video documentaries and television productions. In 1997 they realised an interactive CD-ROM for ZKM, Karlsruhe. Gržinić and Šmid in their 25 years collaborative media work presented and exhibited their video works and video installations in more than 100 video festivals in the World and have received several major awards for their video productions.

Marina Gržinić (1958) is doctor of philosophy and works as researcher at the Institute of Philosophy at the ZRC SAZU (Scientific and Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Art) in Ljubljana. She also works as a freelance media theorist, art critic and curator. She is Professor at The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Marina Gržinić has published hundreds of articles and essays and several books. Her last book is SITUATED CONTEMPORARY ART PRACTICES. ART AND ACTIVISM FROM (THE EAST) OF EUROPE (Revolver 2004). Aina Šmid (1957). She is Professor of art history and works as editor of an internal design magazine in Ljubljana.

In 2003 a retrospective of their works (1985 – 2003) was held at the Oberhausen International short film festival, Germany.In 2004 a DVD compilation of their works from 1990s until 2003 was realized in Vienna, as part of the project INDEX (http://www.index-dvd.at/de/program/005/).

A book was published in Slovenia language in 2006 on Grzinic and Smid works from 1982 to 2005 with the title The performative, political and technological edited by M. Gržinic and T. Velagic, Zak, Ljubljana 2006.
