CAPTIVE (JACKY CHRIQUI)

of CHRIQUI Jacky

FRANCE, 2004, 00:16:30

Production : CHRIQUI Jacky
Genre : Video art, Video dance
Keyword : Body, Woman, Movement, Sensuality

Summary :
First part: The rectangle of light
A captive young girl finds a feeling of freedom again dancing with a rectangle of light. Her jailer orders her to dance, and to draw her inspiration from the image of Tomoko, one of the numerous victims of Minamata (a Japanese village, victim of industrial pollution).
Getting off the rectangle of light would take her towards the darkness of the Devil. She refuses to do it and runs away.
Second part: Autumnal ring road
The young girl wears a dirty-white kimono undergarment. She is sitting in what could be a forest. She is handling leaves and branches without conviction. The forest may be only a thicket near a trunk road. The incessant noise of passing cars contrasts with the autumnal nature. After long times of heavy loneliness, she takes off her piece of cloth, trying to find a last contact with a both welcoming and hostile nature. Her legs are covered by insects’ bites and brambles’ stings. She lies down on her back. In the carpet of leaves, a branch cracks under her light weight. Her face darkens. We do not know whether she lets herself die or whether she falls asleep. (Jacky Chriqui)
