Looking at the topography of Vancouver and its surroundings, we clearly grab all the significance of a frontier area, considering its manifold ethnic groups and the traces of its first inhabitants. The spirit of the Pacific still suffuses a place where a dualism inspired, through myths and philosophies, by an opening to the other, appears as a permanent feature of Native American thinking.
