Summary :
Since its emergence in the mid 19th century, astronomical photography has fascinated both scientists and artists. It enabled them to capture, record and materialize some phenomena invisible until then. Invisible means open to imagination. Some astronomers had their beliefs in inhabited worlds on the Moon, on Mars or Venus confirmed. Victor Hugo’s reflections on infinity, HG Wells or Jules Vernes’ tales were inspired by the scientific reveries of the time, Camille Flammarion’s works fuelled numerous painters, poets or writers’ fantasies, and the perception of something beyond the visible transformed those of the artist’s up until today.
