Interviews with Ki Siriki

Sculptor artist from Burkina, and initiator of the park of the sculpture at Laongo, 40 km from Ouagadougou.
The interviews have been shot during two meetings at Bamako : on April the 21rst and 25th, 2005. Ki Siriki speaks about his artistic way : his initiation by his brothers of the district and his training in Italy. He claims a free interpretation of the reality in asserting strongly that he puts the mystic of his people to the distance, with the largest respect. He measures the gap between the occidental culture and his own culture : possible gestures.

Les entretiens ont �t� r�alis�s lors de deux rencontres � Bamako : le 21 et 25 avril 2005. Ki Siriki nous entretient sur son parcours artistique : son initiation par ses fr�res du quartier et de sa formation en Italie. Il revendique une libre interpr�tation de la r�alit� en affirmant fortement qu�il met � distance la mystique de son peuple avec le plus grand respect. Il mesure l��cart entre la culture occidentale et sa culture : les gestes possibles.


At the Mali, in summer 2002, I started to carry out portraits : artists, gallery managers, art students� I realized that a form should be found to the words I was hearing over there. These words had been stolen, deviated, caricatured� this way reproducing behaviours of authority and submission of which we know well the negative extensions. A fix shot and a minimal sound recording, with a mike and a sober editing. This is derisory, but, actually, the essential is there. I am convinced I have took the right decision. This constraint became a positive asset.
