Summary :
La Goulue, a famous cancan dancer, queen of the Belle Epoque Parisian nightlife, ordered two panels from her friend Toulouse-Lautrec to decorate a fairground shack, two panels that would show two stages of the dancer’s life. The two large paintings knew incredible destinies: they were cut into pieces by a tactless seller, and only reconstituted in1929. Lautrec perpetuated the stories of people like Jane Avril, Valentin-le-Désossé, who became legendary.
