I say to myself that when you leave on a journey, you carry with yourself your own books ; but you always end up reading a book found on the spot.
I think about my journey in Italy…

January 3rd, 1889. Torino. Nietzsche leaves his house and sees an old horse beaten by a brutal coachman. Pity invades him.
Crying and with a protective gesture, he throws himself at the neck of the horse. Then he collapses. He will never more recover his sanity.
Nietzsche definitively lost his mind.
During the following ten years, till his death, he will remain prostrated and will never write anything more.
