RIPAULIN

Genre : Video art
Keyword : Allegory, Animation, Homage, Nature

Summary :
The street is a skin which bears the stigmas of the passing of time and the testimonies of the rumour of the world. For years, the PAULIN butcher’s shop, located in the middle of Solre le Château, a village in the Avesnois, has been definitively closed. Since 1997, it knows a singular and original destiny. Its owner, Madame Sottiaux, makes it available for the Cent Lieux d’Art association, in order to expose artists’ works. It became a place of artistic experimentation. I often wondered what would have happened to the PAULIN window if they had allowed it to fall in decay. The environment close to the PAULIN shop bears on its walls and façades trails of the passing of time and the testimonies of strange stories: A window is broken, patched up with thick sellotape, the windows of an abandoned house are overshadowed with a white paper eroded by time and dampness, an ancient hardware shop painted white shows the inscription “definitive closure”…That's those treasures or graphic rubbish, observed, reconstructed and animated that I wanted to reveal in that movie.[RiPAULIN also exists as an installation]
