Summary :
Born in the United States, trained in Paris where he knew fame, he led his career in London. This film is a way to know more about the life and the work of Whistler, an unclassifiable painter, unknown in France. When he started out, he shared with Manet the sustantial privilege to be the only painter that was spotted out in the Salon des refusés in1863. He became the first American painter from whom le Louvre bought a painting, and Rodin made his tombstone. His works are here analysed, detailed, to help the viewer understand and contemplate them.
