Summary :
The film was shot in Dakar, from July 1999 to January 2000. It evokes the life of the street children in the Capital of Senegal. Two roving gangs are followed day and night in the city by a camera that calmly records the reactions, points of view and silent thoughts of children who are drugged, raped and destroyed. Children whose destiny stopped the very day it began and who we see reduced to the lowest conditions of existence. Through its form (images in black and white, at a speed that is often frustrating, sometimes silent, sometimes with sound), the film maintains and affirms its existence with the style of a documentary, based on moments in real life: never staged. Papisthione was trained in movie production by Jean-Michel Bruyère, in the framework of activities of MAN-KENEEN-KI, a Senegal-based artists’ association for the aid of street children.
