Summary :
Natural forms are drawn in a new direction. Moving images of tree branches and the song of a mother and her 5 year old son are conceived as new food for the eyes and the ears. The multiple loops, layers and the speed of the tape, draw the spectator into the experience of seeing more than 20 million images in 5 minutes.
VAN McELWEE’s body of video work includes over forty single channel pieces and installations. Grants and awards include The American Film Institute Independent Filmmaker Award, The National Endowment for the Arts Independent Production Fund (seven time recipient), and a travel grant from the Government of India.
