Yet despite its great renown, precious little is known about its history. Having become so dirty it could not be clearly viewed the 30 tonnes of marble of this outstanding monument was given a ruthless clinical examination behind closed doors, led by a team of twelve, and lasting nearly a year. This film follows the statue’s spectacular restoration project. It is a unique encounter with a work that poses many questions.
