Production : FATMI Mounir
Genre : Video art
Summary :
M. Fatmi studies in his experimental film Darkening Process (2014), the attempt of the writer and activist John Howard Griffin to be exiled in his own skin.
In "becoming black" he wanted to take the measure of injustices, in 1950-1960, by his fellows African Americans.
The only job where he was accepted despite his diplomas and qualifications was a job as a shoeshine.
Mounir films the shoeshine ritual to find the Griffin gestures.
