Summary :
September 22, 2005 is a video wihch takes place in a « street vendor evacuation action” by the Metropolitan Police of Sao Paolo, Brazil on September 22, 2005. Vendors reject the violent treatment incurred by the authorities and thus a chaotic scene takes place at noon in an otherwise normal weekday.
Two displaced vendors narrate to the camera their opinions about their work situation and they lament having no rights or possibilities of working legally. These two individuals also question the local system’s “lack of democracy”.
This work is also available as a two-channels installation. It contrasts the “official” action of the police against the angry reactions of the vendors, thus probing a conflictive relationship to exercise of authority in regards to civil rights.
