Summary :
1895 : for the first time, Claude Monet paints the Japanese bridge he had had built over a little pond clotted with waterlilies. Until his death, in 1926, he will paint the same motif dozens of times. Eager to capture the slightest shade of light on the bridge, the water, the foliage or the flowers, Monet paints several paintings at the same time and then exhibits them together: the modern idea of the series originates from this. And under the appearant spontaneity, a closer look reveals an immense amount of work on composition. With this series, Monet had one of the great intellectual adventures of the 20th century, that resulted in the eight giant paintings in the Musée de l’Orangerie.
